CELA – Prison Escape
What is the story behind the game?
Things are not looking good for you. You are in prison, and your execution is scheduled for tomorrow. Just when it seems that all hope is lost, you discover a letter in your cell from a prisoner who was locked up here before you – and who managed to escape. He has left you instructions on how to get out, but it certainly will not be easy. The key to your cell is secured by nine locks, and you will first have to uncover the code for each one. If you manage to solve all the puzzles and open every lock, you will free the key and the way to freedom will be yours. If not… by morning, it will probably be a little too late to escape.
How does the game work?
CELA is a parallel escape game. This means that most of the puzzles can be solved in any order, and your team can split up and work on several challenges at the same time. Each solved puzzle gives you the code to one of the locks. It does not matter which order you open them in – what matters is opening all of them, freeing the key to your cell and making your escape.
How difficult is the game?
CELA is on the easier to medium side as escape games go and is suitable for beginners as well. The puzzles are varied, and each one requires a slightly different way of thinking. Another advantage of the parallel format is that if one player gets stuck on a particular puzzle, someone else can work on another one in the meantime.
How much time do we have?
You have 60 minutes to complete the game. If circumstances allow and you are only a step away from the finish, we may occasionally give you a few extra minutes. But it is best to assume that an hour means an hour – the execution is unlikely to be postponed just because the puzzles are taking you a little longer.
Can we ask for hints?
Yes. If you get properly stuck on a puzzle, the aim is not to spend half an hour staring helplessly at it. In CELA, hints are provided directly by the gamemaster, who plays the role of the prison guard. You can communicate with the guard through the bars, and they will point you in the right direction without giving away more than necessary.
How much does it cost?
The price is CZK 800 for a team of 2 players and CZK 1,800 for a team of 3–6 players. The price is therefore for the whole group, not per person.
